Death of a King

A king died today.

After sweeping Bogavanian battlements with their ample numbers of siege weapons and gaining footholds in three places on the walls Beersteiners descended to the courtyard to seek battle with the Bogavanian king. The castle gate had given way to the battering ram and Beersteiner knights charged in, killing some Fezians. The Beersteiner king joined the battle but suffered a wound from a crossbow bolt. Then he was locked in battle with King Matterson. It was an impetuosity typical of Beersteiner nobility but it echoed the battle which  lost the capital Beersteiner capital in an earlier battle, The Beersrteiners retreated even though they outnumbered the Bogavanians.

However they had not given up entirely and headed North to seek out the remaining Beersteiner army camped near the occupied Beersteiner capital. The Bogavanians left a small force of archers and capture catapults at Wesrock and pursued.
The Bogavanians arrived to find the Beersteiners heading for the  the Viper River. Two catapults and a handful of knights are crossing the bridge. The Beersteiner army is strung out along the road.

GAME MECHANICS
At the end of each game a record is kept of surviving units and their numbers. The winning side gets 50% of casualties back and the loser gets 25% back. In this case the previously outnumbered Bogavanians now slightly outnumber the Beersteiners. Mat has decided to keep part of this force in Castle Wesrock as a small force of Beersteiners still occupy another Bogavanian castle and could pose a minor threat. We diced to find out the reaction of the Beersteiners, which included a 50% chance of surrender. However, they were well situated to leave largely intact. The catapults and surviving cannon were dice for to see if they escaped nd half were captured. The following battle will be a small one with around 50 figures a side. Following that it is likely that the Beersteiners will attempt to regain their own capital. This will be the last chance for Beerstein to reverse its fortunes that had started with a successful invasion of Bogavania. Failure could mean the end of Beerstein as an independent country.  At that point neighboring countries will come into the picture and their behavior will be diced for. Neighbouring countries include Fezia, a large country with some arid regions, Asguardia, the Hillmen land, Necrolia, the land of the dead, Orkland and Chaos the land of unspeakable horrors to rival those of Necrolia.
