Battle of the Flowerpots

One of the most curious outdoor games I played was one where flowerpots played a significant role.

David Brown was a member of ACOTS, a landscape gardener and a fervent Timpo collector. I once visited his home in Carnegie, Melbourne and found him loading his bin with broken Timpo figures. Fortunately I managed to salvage them as they were a great source of spare parts.

One hot Summer day we set up his driveway for an American Civil War game with hidden movement. The figures were a combination of my painted units and units of plastic Britains and Timpo swoppets. The units were written on pieces of paper and placed under fowerpots so they would not blow away. As units came into viewing distance the flowerpots and paper were removed and the units placed on the driveway. As units moved so too did the fowerpots of the unrevealed units.
A small amount of pedestrian traffic passed by and the individuals did their best too look straight ahead but with little sidelong glances to see what on earth we were doing.
Unfortunately Dave has dropped out of the scene but we had some great games.
