Playing the Lost Land game.

The game was to be twenty moves, with twelve hours of daylight followed by eight hours of night.  The Vikings had to find a substantial amount of treasure and get it back to the ship without loss of leaders or excessive casualties. At the end of twenty moves a dice was rolled to determine remaining moves. This gave one additional move. The rules were losely based on Warhammer, with the Vikings equivalent to Empire swordsmen and the two female warriors equivalent to Empire generals. Warhammer rules are very suitable for games with different creatures as it allows for differences in initiative, strength and toughness, with varying numbers of attacks.
One difference was the scale. This just involved roughly doubling movement and firing. Another difference was that the vampires in Warhammer can come out in daylight; they have some type of black cloud covering them to protect from daylight. I decided to keep the traditional weakness of the vampires.
My daughter did not maintain her interest this time so I took over the game and played it solo. The Internet comic attractions of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Lenore the Cute Little Dead Girl triumphed over Alexandra continuing the game. Where did I go wrong as a parent? Why was she not kneecapping giants and decapitating orks instead! Even so, it was interesting to continue the scenario and factor in random events, with the dice roll determining ork and vampire actions, so much so that I might get Alexi to help set up such a scenario for myself next time!

FIGURES: Many of the Vikings were by Supreme. These look good with new weapons and a decent paintjob. Others were Conte and other various makers. The orks were from a number makers but many are cheap plastic chunky knights with ork heads. The Australian business Eureka Minatures makes a wide range of small scale metal historical and fantasy figures. I discovered that some ork heads intended for smaller scales were big enough for 54mm. The vampires were made from copies of Action Pack knights with new heads taken from some fantasy plastic figures from the 1980s. The demons were from a plastic fantasy set. I have no idea where the plastic giant came from but picked it up at a flea market or garage sale.
