Army Dark Green invades.

Welcome to new viewers from Eastern Europe and New Zealand.

My next wargame, in a few weeks time, is going to be Army Black's defence of its homeland circa 1909. Army Dark Green is going to invade and is targeting the cities of Duseldorf and Hamstein.

The premise is based on the army colours of HG Wells, originally designed to negate the possible nationalist implications of wargaming with representations of actual nations. The idea of fictional nations and wars is extended in Padre Paul Wright's book Funny Little Wars. However, everyone who plays Funny Little Wars knows that Army Black is Germany and Army Dark Green is Russia. The attraction in placing conflicts in the pre-WW1 era with semi-fictional countries  is to justify retaining more colourful historical uniforms, combining uniforms from different decades, and indeed, creating completely fictional uniforms and flags. In this battle the completely fictional country of Ruritania is providing a lancer regiment to Army Black.

Both armies will be entering from table quarters with about three units each. Everything else will be in reserve and will be rolled for each move. This way a a scouting force will spread out and try to establish itself in strategic places in preparation for the main force.
The towns have been made from terracotta cookie houses and Sesame Street buildings populated by an assortment of plastic and metal civilians. I am going to use a percentage dice to determine the responses of the inhabitants. They may retreat to their homes, attempt to flee down the roads with their belongings or to arm themselves and resist the invaders until help arrives. One mechanic has the potential to make a Molotov cocktail.
