Aztec Temple

The finished Aztecs made from the cereal Indian.

Reamsa Indians. Yhey look good but they are mach bigger than 54mm.

Not really an Aztec but a cereal packet North American Indian 'bird dancer'. He looks good with the Aztecs though.

Not an Aztec but an example of another conversion from the same figure. The figure on the left is a Hong Kong copy of Cresent. The figure on the right is my conversion into an Egyptian.

A conversion in to Aztec in process.
This is the Barzo Aztec temple set I am getting from Bob Bolton. When Bob got them as part of a multi set deal the figures were already painted, basically but neatly. I'll be sprucing them up a little when I get them from Bob in January. The temples will serve for SF, fantasy and archaeological expeditions as well as for what it is intended. I'll need a lot more Aztecs than what comes in the set but I might cut corners and conscript some of my plains and forest Indians (minus the Winchesters!). The Conquistadors will have an impressive save against Indian arrows and hand to hand weapons and a little less against slings. The cavalry will be lethal so long as the Spaniards stay in close formation.

The Aztecs, stupidly, continued to try to capture Spaniards instead of killing them outright and so had an additional disadvantage against the metal weapons of the conquistadors.

Aztec Conversions: I made these quite a few years ago. Left is an eagle knight made from a ninja with a cereal/Cresent birdman head and cut down sword. The shield was from inside an Airfix paint bottle lid. The next Aztec was made from the Britains Detail Indian with a pistol. Putty smoothed with liquid cement filled in gaps and created the body suit appearance after unneeded details were cut off. I chose this figure because it already had an animal head.

A current project: Top left is a made in China cheapo Indian, remarkable for coming with a sword! This is being cut to the shape of an Aztec obsidian bladed wooden 'sword' or club. The other figure is a Cereal/Cresent Indian with feathers removed. The bow string looked like a plank of wood so this has been carefully cut off.
The next photo shows the Aztec bowmen, now with added putty hair and fuse wire bow strings. I have also previously used human hair, successfully, for bow strings. This time I added a notch or hole to anchor the fuse wire. I'll be spray undercoating over the PVA undercoat today.
Another pic of the Barzo set. The paint jobs on the Aztecs are a little dark and dull so I'll be partially repainting them.
