Princess Alexandra's last battle?

Red Sonya was urged on by her men to abandon Lord Hagar and his band and flee to the ship. They could not miss the tide or they would all fall to the beasts or the she devil. Princess Alexandra and the ample treasure were loaded on board the ship. Twenty two Vikings, including Lord Hagar, were left dead in the lost land.

Princess Alexandra was laid on a bed as Sonya placed her ear on her chest. Was that a faint heart beat? Sonya wiped the blood from Alexandra's many wounds and prepared the magic healing herbs. They would prevent poisoning from the wretched devil creatures but what were Alexandra's internal injuries? She doubted if Alexandra would see battle again, even if she lived.

GAME MECHANICS

The second half of the game I played solo. (Without the real Alexandra to complete the game perhaps that is why the warrior Alexandra fell!) Despite the loss of a Viking lord and the felling of one leader and numerous Viking losses it was a strong Viking victory, due to the large amount of treasure brought back. (Two other items of treasure remained to be found),

Each move a D6 was used to determine if potential enemies emerged. The large creatures, although moving randomly with direction dice, had an increasing chance of charging as they neared the Vikings. In the end, as the Vikings tried to withdraw to the safety of the ship, nearly all potential enemies were advancing on the Vikings.

There was a certain amount of unpredictability and suspense even though played as a solo game. The big creatures were particularly entertaining as they finally attacked an enemy of the Vikings and then each other. (All this was determined randomly byd dice).

The Viking high initiative served them well but was outmatched by the blue female and the huge monsters. The mutants, with two wounds and extra toughness and strength were also hard nuts to crack. The decision as to when to retreat and when to fight and how many Vikings to abandon added to the suspense.
