Neanderthals and Friends

I have always been fascinated by the various prehistoric humans and proto-humans. Neanderthals are interesting because their existence overlapped the Cromagnon man which was basically the same as modern man. Neanderthal's brain was, on average, slightly larger than modern man but organised differently with a smaller frontal lobe. It is assumed that capacity for abstract thought was less developed but other areas were more developed. It used to be thought that they were hunched over and did not have the power of speech but both these assumption have been shown to be incorrect. Visually the main difference was a broader physique, thick brow ridge, flatter head and receding chin. It is unclear to what extent Cromagnon and Neanderthal inter-bred and if they produced offspring that could also produce children. What is known is that the Neanderthals, so well adapted for a specialised survival in extreme cold disappeared and were most likely unable to compete with the more versatile Cromagnon.
The figures are jointed and slightly cartoony. I have super glued the joints and filled in the gaps with putty. I'll post another pic when they are finished.

I found a suitable stone/rock for one of the cavemen and filled in the ends with liquid putty to make it extend right into the hands. The other one I gave a stone axe; I don't remember if it came with the figure.
