Isis Decrees all Women must Undergo Female Circumcision Political Comment
Isis has decreed that all females aged eleven to forty six who are under their jurisdiction undergo female circumcision. This would include millions of Iraqi and Syrian women.
Such mutilation is a cultural interpretation of what is required to follow the Koran. Women should be chaste (as opposed to chased - unless they are being chased down to have their clitorises removed). No sexual feeling - no funny business - must be pretty boring for the blokes too I'll bet.
It is interesting that Western conservatives are often vocal against such Medievalism. This is ironic because I suppose the Muslim extremists are even more conservative. The difference is that a Western conservative's golden Age might be, say, the 1950s whilst a Muslim conservative's Golden Age would be the 700s! The Western conservative might well like the idea of women staying home to raise children but has no wish to mutilate women or make them wear portable tents every time they go to do the shopping. What is interesting is that so far Western countries 'progressives' or left wing movements have been fairly quiet regarding abuse of women in certain Muslim countries. Where are the street demonstrations? Where is the fund raising for resistance forces against such barbarism?
Fortunately Isis's days are numbered. The Shia are the majority in the region and are mustering against the Sunni extremists. Nor can the West allow a new terrorist playground to fester indefinitely. The moderate Sunnis, themselves will get jack of Isis just like they got sick of Bin Laden's mob. In fact, the Americans were very good at getting united action from Iraqis of both sub faiths against extremists who would kill someone for watching telly or smoking a ciggy.
The problem was that when the Americans left Iraq the new government alienated Sunnis by excluding them from government and making them ripe for dissidence and influence from extremist forces they would not otherwise support.
