Medieval Gunner Painted
I decided to go for extravagant hose in a black and white variable pattern.
The hand gunners have fascinated me since childhood when I saw a picture of one in Knowledge magazine. He was wearing plate armour and had the very early type of gun with a metal tube on a stick and a touch hole for the gunpowder ignition. It probably reminded me of the cracker guns my friend Pete and I made from metal or terracotta tubes with stones and crackers. Cracker nights were real adventures then but potentially dangerous. Fortunately we never shot them at people but it was exciting to make our own 'guns' which we laid on the ground like the earliest medieval cannons rather than hand guns.

I find the medieval hand gin fascinating too.
ReplyDeleteThere's an excellent Osprey book devoted to them.
