Tony's Aztecs Finished

Tony's Aztecs are finished except for the final coat of artists fixative. They have been coated with water resistant PVA, which dries to a mat finish. The fixative will be slightly shiny. Realistically the skin and any leather should have a slight sheen, the former especially in the tropics. The clothes should be mat but I have been less concerned with that degree of realism in the last few years, just going for the semi-sheen for toy soldiers. I also went through a gloss stage but was not won completely over, especially as old leads tend to have a semi-sheen anyway and full gloss obscures some detail, fine if there isn't good detail perhaps.

Anyway, back to the Aztecs. I have gone for a variety of bright colours as befits the subject. Aztecs were not uniform and were into feathers of tropical birds and weird suits. The slingers were possibly less bright if they were similar to the medieval European tendency that missile troops were lower class and thus less brightly clad. Perhaps this was not entirely true of the Aztecs.

I am also finishing off some more Reamsa Aztecs for myself and have done some minor conversions on the kneeling wounded figure; stay tuned for another post coming to this channel.

Here is the absolute final finish as I have decided on mixed finishes after ll with a sheen to the skin and mat for the clothes.
