A New Bogavanian/Beerstein War Begins.
As the Winter snows thawed the Bogavanians and Beersteiner kings consolidated their forces. Each suspected the other side was preparing to attack.
Although the Beersteiners began with a larger army there were rumors of invasions from the North and East. Bogavania was not the only enemy. In fact, the Beersteiner capital's proximity to Necrolia, even with a mountain chain as protection meant that preparations were made to make a moat around it and also their castle in the east. In addition a church was being built in the capital. The cardinal urged king long Shanks that this was necessary to ward off any attack from evil and supernatural forces. The king agreed but his eyes were primarily on the lands of Bogavania to the South.
Evil omens delayed military action by both sides but eventually Beersteiner scouts were sent forth. A light cavalry unit in the South found an enemy army not far from the captured castle from the last conflict. In the West scouting bowmen discovered a small force of Bogavanian archers defending a tower building project on the coast. Long Shanks had been overseeing a tower building project himself but he hurried his army to squash the small force of Bogavanians, who refused to flee and prepared to make a stand on a narrow coastal strip.
The overall forces of Bogavania outnumbered the Beeersteiners as Beersteiner money had been diverted to building projects so Bogavanian men under arms consisted of approximately 500 vs about 400 Beersteiners. However, the Bogavanians are short of mounted troops, a reversal of the previous campaign, They are strong in chain mail armed foot troops and smaller numbers of plate armed knights. They also have some mercenary Hillmen. The Beersteiners have light cavalry, including archers, a large force of fanatical crusaders and plate armored mounted knights as well as hired great Swords and Hillman axe men. Both sides have units of archers with Beersteiner units tending to be less numerous but larger. The Bogavanians have only one castle to the Beersteiner three. Both sides are well armed with siege weapons.
The Battle of the Coast is a foregone conclusion. The numbers it will cost the Beersteiners to eradicate the defiant Bogavanians being the only issue. The Beersteiners have left their siege weapons - a cannon, heavy catapult and 4 medium catapults in the vicinity of their own tower building and a small force 10 Hillmen axemen and 15 crossbows. The force sent to engage the Bogavanians are: 20 great Sword mercenaries 12 mounted plate led by the black knight, 28 heavy long bowmen and 16 foot plate knights led by the hero, Clint Woodark. The 13 scouting light archers have joined them. The Bogavanians consist of 15 heavy longbowmen and four crossbowmen. King Lon Shanks intends to roll over this tiny force and to press on, reclaiming land formerly given to the Bogavanians as part of a peace settlement and re-adjustment of borders.
