Medieval Movement and Shooting Rules

The shooting works this way. Use a 12 sided dice for each figure firing. I generally allow two ranks and more if the ones at the back ae on higher ground. Check the ranges of the weapon and then look on the rubric under the weapon and the affect on a particular troop type. The three columns represent short, medium and long range. A crossbow has more chance of penetrating armour, No armour saves are involved because the chance of a casualty is incorporated in the armour type of the target. My Vikings are generally assumed to have a mail coat, helmet and shield. All those with this type of armour or just breast plate and helmet come under medium troops and 'mail coat'. Light armour means helmet and shield.
For some reason I can't upload scanned documents here so I have taken photos but couldn't get everything on the same page. The 'shoots every second turn' refers to siege equipment and everything else shoots once.  The large siege weapons got cut off. Catapults shoot with guess range and use of scatter dice. They use a small template, varying with size of the catapult and wounding according to the same. Less chance with small catapult, greater with large but remember we are not talking about an explosive blast. For shooting at castles there is a greater chance of hitting if aiming at the wall and then must 'wound' it with its strength equalling or surpassing the toughness of the wall which has a given number of 'wounds' to destroy. Often it's easier just to aim at the men on the walls and if hit it also counts as a hit on the wall. Towers have their own toughness and points. Bowmen, other than crossbows can move a half move and shoot. Everything else is move or shoot. I have a special rule for horse bowmen (assuming the skilled horse bowmen like Mongols etc). They can move a full move and shoot anywhere from the first half of their move but can also be shot at in the enemy's shooting at a spot they passed. I decided they could shoot in two ranks which makes for a long unit if I want them all to be able to shoot. Basically they are snaking around and shooting to the side. As my horse bowmen units are only 12 man and sometimes 14 man they tend to be mainly an irritant and vulnerable to long bows.
