Second Battle Of The Tarax River - A Blood Bath.
The scene was set by the First battle of the Tarax River with initial forces receiving reinforcements. The Bogavanians led by The Duke of Hearts were obviously determined to make headway as the forces sent by the Bogavnain king greatly outnumbered the Beerstieners.
Bogavanian forces totalled 322 men compared to 178 Beersteiners. many of the Bogavanians were merely heavy infantry, equipped with shields, helmets and metal scaled tunics or vests. Others were covered in chainmail as medium knights. n the other hand there was a core of plate armoured knights and no less than five heroes to bolster the strength and endurance of forces.
The Beersteiners, lacked heroes but most forces possessed banners to bolster morale and more to the point, many were hard core crusaders armoured in plate
Missile weaponry was a mixed bag. The Beerstienrs had a unit of fifteen crossbowmen , a unit of mounted Mongol bowmen and a half sized unit of the same. Arriving late were two catapults.
The Bogavanians possessed twos unit of 17 longbowmen but one of these got into action late in the battle. The Beersteiners wiped out the first bowmen unit through its own combined archery and an attack by the foot crusaders coming across the bridge, no doubt peeved by the arrows sent their way. The Bogavanians also had a catapult whose crew was decimated by mounted archery before it could become effective. Of concern to the Beersteiners was the knowledge that the Bogavanians were bringing up two cannons but these never got positioned to fire.
The Beersteiners could have simply remained behind the river and dealt with Bogavanian units as they attempted to cross the single bridge. However the concern for enemy missile fire and a plan to wipe out the Bogavanian vanguard before reinforcements arrived led to a force in place to the South of the river and a force crossing the river to engage the Bogavanians. As it happened, Beersteiner reserves arriving from the adjacent Eastern hex were delayed so that the force South of the River still had to engage superior numbers. They still managed to cause maximum damage before they were eventually wiped out. The Beersteiner remaining reserves then arrived North of the river.
The remaining beersteiners then had to contend with the new Bogavanian unit of longbows and managed to reduce its numbers from return archery, but not before losing most of its horse archers. The crossbowmen (strangely wearing enemy livery) were charged by a much diminished force of Bogavanian foot knights led by a hero knight. In the end the crossbowmen prevailed through numbers.
Finally, a large unit of Bogavanian chainmail knights straddled the bridge but did not go further to fight the newly arrived great Sword mercenaries. It was move 12 and a dice was rolled to see if the battle would continue - it didn't. However, a check of each sides casualties was made:
BOGAVANIA: Of 322 men 159 were casualties. Three hero knights had fallen, unconscious among the casualties. The near mortally wounded heroes were Peter Petrov, Alexader Baranov and Michael Herthy. The unwounded heroes were Asanov and Zoroik.
BEERSTEIN: Of 178 men 64 were casualties.
Beerstein still held the river although the Bogavanians had come close to establishing a foothold.
MAJOR UNIT LOSSES:
BEERSTEIN: Five units of crusaders, including 3 mounted, and a unit of mounted bowmen.
BOGAVANIA: 2 units of mounted plate, 1 mounted mail, 1 plate foot, 1 heavy archers, 1 heavy foot.
(Some units, not shown here, on both sides, were still intact but decimated).

152 survivors
BEERSTEIN:

Beersteiner crusaders arriving from the Eastern side of the battlefield and South of the river, are hit in the flank by Bogavanian knights. However, they react to the threat quickly and defeat their attackers.
Beersteiner forces on the Northern side of the river cross the bridge to meet the Bogavanians.
Initial Bogavanian forces ready to push forward
Bogavanian knights hit Beersteiner crusaders arriving from the Eastern side of the field and South of the river but the Beersteiners rally to defeat the attackers.
More crusaders attack the Bogavanians, deciding offence is the best defence. The crusader fot plough through the Bogavanian heavy infantry but the mounted knights who crossed the bridge are flounfering against the Bogavanian foot knights.
Bogavanian reinforcements arrive. The Beersteiners are seriously outnumbered.
Also arrived from the Eastern side and South of the river, the Beersteiner foot knights stand up to a charge of medium Bogavanian mounted mailed knights.
Bogavanian mounted knights who were organising for best position for a charge are instead charged by the Beersteiner foot crusaders. However, despite the crusaders impetuosity they are worn down and wiped out.
Beersteiner crossbowmen, here wearing captured enemy uniforms, beat of a charge of enemy knights until one solitary enemy hero remains who is also killed. The Beersteiner commander urges them on - from a distance.
A force of mailed nights crosses the river but there way is blocked by newly arrived Great Swords. The catapult crew shoot some rocks at the advancing Bogavanians, killing four of them.
