Gateway Battle To Bogavanian Capital

Just North of the Bogavanian capital, Westros a fateful battle began. A Bogavanian force had been tasked with defending the approach to Westros. The arrival of King Longflanks with a large army cast that defence into question as the Bogavanians were outnumbered almost two to one.

They could more readily defended from South of the Jovick River but there was doubt whether the army could safely withdraw to that point. In any case the plucky Bogavanian commander, Petrov was determined to stop, or at least to damage the Beersteiner army then and there. Petrov, had suffered from wounds from previous battles but that would not stop him now.

BELOW: Petrov orders his heavy infantry and archers to move forward through the forest to form a defensive line in cover.
The rest of Petrov's army moves forward in the open and forms a defensive line. The single cannon arrives to late to take position.

Longshank's Beersteiners also move forward and form a line to await the king's orders for a coordinated assault.
King Long Shank's Royal Short Arses remain in the rear. The dwarfs job is going to be assembling the siege tower when the army arrives at the enemy capital and digging mines as necessary. nether-the-less, they have a formidable fighting reputation..
King Longshanks longbow men take position.

The Beersteiner mounted knights are chaffing at the bit.
Beersteiner foot knights advance in the centre.
Bogavanian medium knights endure a cloud of arrows from the Beersteiners. The unit with the raven flag are Beersteiner allied Hillmen preparing to assault Bogavanian archers in the forest.
Beersteiner mounted knights ignore orders and prematurely charge the enemy Hillmen.
Meanwhile the Beersteiner's Hillmen have charged through the forest to collide with the Bogavanian heavy infantry and archers. Some of the Hillmen sport outlandish and colourful headgear, not unlike the distant Aztecs' strange costumes.
In the centre a Bogavanian charge of mounted knights is met by overwhelming numbers of Beersteiner foot knights.
At the same time more Beersteiner mounted knights try to rescue their brethren from the Bogavanian Hillmen. Despite the initial impact of the charge the Hillmen, with their two handed axes and swords hack off horse heads and knights alike. They are aided by Bgavanian mounted knights who have joined the melee. Two units of mounted Beersteiner knights are destroyed.

Last act: The last Bogavanian knights die by the Beersteiner foot knights' halberds and swords.

Other aspects of the battle were longshanks Mongol mounted light archer shooting their bows at the Bogavanian knights, whittling off one here, two there but themselves staying out of melee.

The Bogavanian commander showed his bravery by joining in melee with enemy mounted knights and turning the tide in one part of the battle. In the end though, he was captured as Longshanks, noting his bravery (and probably considering his value for ransom) ordered his men to stay their swords. A handful of heavy infantry and a cannon were also captured. The way to the capital lay open.
