Glorietta Pass Second Battle: History Reversed

Today Mat and I switched sides and I had the Union force.
At first things appeared to go the Union's way as I won the initial initiative and my cavalry charged Mat's Mounted Rifles. The cavalry thrashed the Mounted Rifles but then other Mounted Rifles dismounted in the rocks at the canyon edge and across the canyon blazed away sending off the elite cavalry unit.

                                                            Confederate advance
                                                                  Federal forces

Federal cavalry having vanquished one unit of mounted rifles now faces combined shooting from the rest.

Federal flanking forces arrive on turn six, after delays scaling down cliffs attack and kill Confederates trying to take wagons to safety but one Texan escapes with a wagon. The other Texans take cover in the ranch building and snipe at the enemy. The New Mexican Hispanic volunteers are in the foreground. A sixpounder fires on the Yankees before its crew is shot down.
Meanwhile, in the canyon's main battle two Federal cannons misfire and blow up!
Other gun crews have been whittled down from the Texans carbines.
The elite Federal infantry have been halved by cabine and artillery fire.
                                                      Texans fire carbines from cover.

In the end the Federals in the canyon were severely reduced in numbers and the flanking force had been delayed by the small force of Confederates who stopped them from destroying the supply wagons.

We finished the game after our customary 12 moves.
