Ancient Numidian Cavalry Into Abyssinians/Lionoans - My Abyssinian/Lionian Cavalry
Some time ago I made some posts on my fictional country of Lionia, a Christian African kingdom, in reality Abyssinian but with some license to include my own flags and eccentric units like attack lions!
Today I completed three new recruits made from Hat Numidian cavalry. Now, I have reservations about the figures - the arms are too long, making them look like they belong in trees. I resisted the urge to transplant a new arm and did some minor conversion work. This involved adding trousers to two of the figures by using putty. I also moulded on bandoleers and glued on spare Timpo Arab muskets with some trimming to make them look more modern. The weapon being held was replaced with a carved down plastic tooth flosser/picker which is already suitably curved. The Abyssinians had very curved swords that resembled scythes.
Below: The three new irregular cavalry made from Hat Numidians. The flock is still drying in the wet PVA.
They join their friends who are converted from Arabs and Red Indians.
Lionian/Abyssinian regular cavalry made from AIP WW1 cavalry.
Foot troops can also be made from Hat foot Numidians, Sudan war dervishes and Arabs. Regulars can be made from WW2 Japanese that just need a change of head gear or a conversion with putty of the existing caps.
This wargame army is intended to represent an early to mid 20th century African kingdom which is attempting to modernise but still has many badly or primitively equipped troops. Abyssinia fought bravely against Mussolini's invasion but was defeated, in part, by poison gas. Lionia has, with varied results, fought against Borduria, Ruritania and Cortesia. Ruritania got the upper hand in its war and extended the border of its neighbouring colony.
