Battle Of The Burning Banner

BATTLE OF THE BURNING BANNER

This is the fourth battle in our campaign of the Fezian invasion of Patra.
The scenario for this battle is drawn from an old Warhammer book. It is a 'historical re-fight' where an elven force attempt to take a hill occupied by orcs. I our battle the attacking force are Fezians and the defenders Patrans.

Defenders and attackers set up 50cm away from the two side edges (doubled the Warhammer distance as are all the measurements to allow for bigger scale) Each side set up 96cm from each other. One third of the attacking force was in reserve to arrive on the roll of 4+ on turn three.
The attacking Fezians out-numbered the Patrans by two units and also had a great number of bows and matchlocks. Te flanking force consisted of plate armoured foot with halberds and cavalry as well as chainmailed spearmen.

The Fezian army is commanded by General Prince Isergi Babka had great battlefield knowledge but his caution, this time led to hesitation and bumbling as he failed to order the advance and deployment of his troops before the Patrans had taken the initiative. The Patran Greek cavalry advanced towards the Fezian horse archers who were not yet prepared. The foot archers were well positioned against the Greek and Roman heavy infantry advance,
The Fezian artillery blasted  the advancing enemy infantry.

But the column of Greeks assaulted the artillery battery before they could reload. The artillery men were wiped out.
Greek cavalry crash into the flank of the horse archers.
Hillmen spearmen and Roman infantry advance but receive repeated volleys from the foot archers,
                                                    Last moments of the artillerymen.
After sustaining many casualties the Romans assault the bowmen but the full unit of overlapping lights is a match for them,
At the other side of the battlefield the matchlockmen are simultaneously assaulted by Egyptian lights and heavy Greek infantry.
Meanwhile the flank attack of the Fezians hits home against Egyptian lights who are pushed back on to the hill.
The flanking mounted Fezian plate charges the Hillman spearmen but the horses falter at the porcupine. The Hillmen then charge the horsemen!
The Roman assault on the bowmen is stopped in its tracks and only the hero, Antonious Flippantous, is still standing. At 35 he was still an accomplished swordsman but numbers finally brought him down.
Back to the Western side of the field and the Fezian horse archers and lancers have charged into the melee, destroying the two Patran units.

The Fezian spearmen continue their advance and come to the Burning Banner. The Patrans had taunted the Fezians by burning the captured Fezian banner; this infuriated the Fezians who were consumed by hatred!

DUEL OF WIZARDS

The Patran Sorceress, Nerissa, blasted away with her magic only to blast herself into the warp! The Fezian level three wizard, Costrum, repeatedly blasted enemy units and created paralysis in a unit of mounted Romans which could not move without sustaining casualties form his spell. It was only a matter of time, with spells running hot, before he encountered the warp. Fortunately for him he survived but three matcjlock men next to him were blasted by magic energy.
