Blusian/French Army
My Blusian Army is based on historical French uniforms from late 19th to early 20th century.
First up Mokarex or Cafe Storm Generals.
These zouaves were originally done as ACW. I also change the flags and use them for Blusians/French and even as (more doubtfully )Turkish types.
Figures include, Hat, Accurate and Hat.
Marx and a European maker with packs added. I did these as later war Belgians but they could also be French colonial troops as those also wore khaki during WW1. The Marx figures were meant to be WW2 but work as WW1 without greatcoats..
Conversion of Crescent Household Guardsman.
Experimental French uniform prior to WW1. Obviously they were thinking of more neutral colours but just did not want to lose that nice red. (There is a pic of this in the book Vanished Armies).
Horizon blue, intended to merge with gun smoke. The shades varied somewhat to include one closer to grey. The pseudo French flags are from The Virtual Armchair General for 'Army Horizon Blue'.
The AIP French WW1 troops are somewhat chunkier and bigger than the AIP FFL, annoying really, but one should not complain with such a great, cheap range put out by the company.
Other colour schemes could be the helmeted French troops with dark blue great coats and red trousers with horizon blue helmets or various combinations of the old and new colours. I'm not sure how historical that was but it seems probable in transitional uniform times. I dimly recall some troops also wore all dark blue. I exploit this to make regimental recognition easier.
Of course. If you're doing a fictitious country you can make up completely fictitious uniform colours as well. My armies for this period are best described as 'semi historical', mainly because I mix historical uniforms from a few decades apart. Other armies I have, like Ruritania and Gerolstein, are almost completely fictitious in uniforms. (I still 'borrow' troops from historical armies such as ACW). (See Paul Wright's book Funny Little Wars for some great inspiration). Some people even name their countries after themselves...
Wonderful army you've assembled! I'm particularly fond of that Experimental uniform with the red trousers. You've also given me the idea that the Marx WWII French could serve as WWI Italians (the great coats on the AiP figures make them unsuitable). Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThanks John. I'd like to see how your own figures turn out.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I don't see much of is WW1 Portuguese. The European theatre Portuguese uniform was also Horizon Blue with British style peaked caps or horizon blue helmets a little like the French ones with a kind if ribs on them.
