Fantasy Campaign Map

It isn't the prettiest wargame map I ever saw but it is mine and I put a lot of effort into this one. The technology is a dog's breakfast - hand drawn, scanned and modified with digital programs, Paint and Paint 3D. There are better map making procedures but this will work.

Furthermore it is a political map combined with a physical map. (No there isn't really a pink or mauve land with green trees).

Previously the map began with a Games Workshop one made from plastic clip together Warhammer ones. Then, after painting the hexes I realised I need more space so glued the hexes on to a big slab of wood and drew more hexes on it. It is big and awkward so i set about doing it on paper, Then I thought, why not put it on my computer so it can easily be shared?

This map is not complete. My hard copy includes Orkland and land of the Dark Elves that are to the West. I'll do them at a later date and also add more parts such as the land of Aztecia. The third party countries are not fully mapped and this will occur if they enter (by random factors) the campaign between Bogavania and Fezia versus Beerstein or mthye latter decide to send expeditins to look for treasure, magic items and even more territory.

My country is pink - Beerstein, The white border area is Bogavania, The mauve is Fezia. There is another pink land called Patra. Fezia is mainly open plains with small sections of forest, mountains and desert. Beerstein has plenty of forest and mountains. Bogavania also has forests and bogs!

Potential third party threats to Beerstein include Necrolia, Chaos, Hill people, orcs, Dark Eldar and Fritzerland. potential threats to Fezia/Bogavania includes Necrolia, Silver Horde, Patra, Independent Aztecia and Fritzerland,

I have written down the credits value of each hex and will type them up at some stage, I have given Beerstein and Bogavania-Fezia the same wealth as a starting point and so one player doesn't have cause for complaint! This may change when one nation conquers parts of the other.

The main inspiration was Hackett's book, Fantasy Wargaming, which has suggestions for calculating wealth of map hexes. I have used his concept of credits. So everything that might be included in an army has a points value, with ten points equalling a credit; An army needs to take with it enough credits to support it for a campaign. These credits are generally carried in wagons and the wagons and siege engines or artillery arrive from reserve when an army deploys in a hex. Obviously, this is to depict their slow moving nature. A player can elect to include a guard to travel with the wagons. Anther inspiration is Tont Bath's Campaign Wargaming.

Any unit marked with an R may be subject to rebellion, especially if no garrison is left there.

  1. "(No there isn't really a pink or mauve land with green trees)"- just think of them unusual camo schemes if there was! The flag symbolism etc - "We will defend our pink / mauve earth with every drop of our [insert colour here] blood.

Plenty of opportunities for friction rebellion and scenarios in this diverse map. A veritable powder keg!
