Lionia Gets Reinforcements And Gains A Victory
A special rule for Lionia is that from move four it can roll dice to see if D3 reinforcements arrive, then roll again to see if they arrive on the flank. Both things happened on move six, much to the consternation of my Cortesians.
The battle had begun with eight Cortesian units plus artillery and a machine gun and the Lionians with nine units, one of these being cavalry. The Cortesian units included two mounted infantry units and a lancer regiment as well as three militia, an elite infantry unit and regulars. Cortesia also had a small unit of five dynamite specialists.
Below: a flanking attack of new arrivals. The Fezian flag shows many of them to be foreign volunteers.
The dynamite specialists hide in a hut, ready to chuck dynamite if the natives get close.
Lionian attack lions approach, edged on by their trainers. The river can't be crossed but a narrow strip between the foreground and the glass cabinet is classed as land.
Dismounted mounted riflemen about to be overrun by the flank attack.
The machinegun takes care of the lions.
More dismounted mounted infantry are overrun at the hut. The Lionians don't now there are men inside the it.
One of the Cortesian cannons is also overrun by the flank attack.
Meanwhile, on the Cortesian left flank the militia edge forward after their combined fire plus a cannon shot drives off the regular Lionian infantry.
Lionians take shooting positions from inside the palace.
Lionian irregular cavalry
Cortesian regulars move up the road.
The Lionians suffered greater casualties but their numbers from the reinforcements allowed them to penetrate the Cortesian lines. The Cortesian elite Contras and the machine gun, as well as the hidden dynamite men were positioned to take care of these remaining interlopers. Unfortunately, the dice roll, at the end of move 12 decided that the battle ended. As we based victory on table quarters alone mat won as he controlled two quarters and my Cortesians controlled one plus disputed the fourth.
