Ameriga Invades The Aztec Lost Land

Amerigan gold prospectors had found a Cortsian valley, previously completely cut off from the modern world. But then they began to vanish. Amerigan president , Donald Troomp, demanded that President Lopaz Cortez (a direct descendant of the country's namesake) that an Amerigan expeditionary force be allowed to enter the valley. President Troomp promised Lopaz that he would build him the best luxury golf course in the world and make him 'a deal he could not refuse'.

So in July 1902 a force of Amerigan volunteers and some regulars crossed the border and marched to the hidden valley. The shining Aztec temple city beckoned. The troops expected to take part in the spoils of war but they faced stiff resistance

Aztecs lead a prisoner from the Rough Rider's regiment to his doom at the top of a sacrificial temple. The Aztecs were unable to perform the ritual within the allotted 12 game moves.

Aztecs hurled back in the center, although some of the volunteers can be also seen retreating. The machinegun on the hill provided good fire support.
The Aztecs charged in and fought ferociously but had suffered so many casualties in the charge that they could not sustain the melee.
The Aztec sorcerer sent a small comet hurtling down upon the invaders. The Amerigans saw the approaching flaming rock and moved out of the way but the artillery men and a few of the infantry were killed.

THE SET UP

The Aztecs were chosen by Mat. (Had I had the choice of armies I would have chosen the Amerigans anyway as they had the fire power to overcome). Mat could set up further forward than the Amerigans. He held back his forces behind cover to save them from Amerigan shooting but then he made a massed charge in the center and a smaller one on my left flank. He also sent his cavalry forward against my right flank. These latter were totally ineffective and almost wiped out. He placed archers and his sorcerer on one of the rear pyramids. Some of his magic spells outranged the invaders' firearms. (Magic spells taken from Warhammer with ranges doubled for larger scale).

Some forces arrived from reserve; these were the Amerigans artillery piece and a unit of infantry. The Aztecs triceratops with howdah also arrived from reserve and was slow to appear. When it did mat kept it behind the pyramid, protected from  enemy shooting but he did waste a potentially terrifying and damaging weapon which might have survived shooting to cause havoc in my ranks.

THE TWO SIDES
The Amerigans had untested volunteer troops and their quality is not revealed until they shoot, test for leadership or engage in melee. As it turned out three units had elite status. In addition, the volunteer cavalry began classified as elite. The Aztecs had more men and a number of elite warrior units. One unit had heavy armor but this did not provide protection from bullets. This is a fantasy Aztec army so it has things a historical one did not have. The 'real magic' from the sorcerer was one. The prehistoric beast was another. It also had some cavalry and armor.

OBJECTIVES
One of my objectives was to find treasure hidden in the temples. I did not get close. However I did have possession of two table quarters and contested the other two. I had also destroyed more enemy units than the one cannon crew I lost. One of Mat's objectives was to sacrifice enemy captured and he came close to doing so. However the game ended on move 12 before he could do so.

CONCLUSION: Amerigan victory.
