Bogavanians, Fezians and Beersteiners Enter The Land Of The Aztecs.

Today Mat and I played the Dinosaur Egg hunt game. The rules all came together smoothly. The main issue unclear was whether the random actors - Aztecs and dinosaurs, would keep rolling on the random results tables when they were engaged in combat. The other thing was the herbivores posed no real role in the battle as the ankylosaur and a triceratops just grazed the whole time; it would have been a different matter if they had eggs and someone tried to take them.

Below: My Beersteiner forces assemble after landing from their ships.

Mat's Bogavanian and Fezian force assembles.

The Bogavanian and Fezian forces spread out to both sides of the lake
Beersteiner archers cross the bridge and find a giant carnosaur egg.

An ankylosaurus appears close to Fezian forces but quietly grazes.

Aztec archers and slingers appear to observe Mat's egg hunters and eventually attacks them.

Fezians discover dinosaur eggs,

Beersteiners, having found no eggs near the ruins are suddenly faced with the arrival of Jaguar and Eagle Knights.

After a 'small' carnosaur almost wipes out a unit of Fezian matchlock men it is finally felled when another regiment arrives and charges the beast,

Bogavanian matchlock men search for eggs and find two ankylosaurus ones.
They get there before the Fezian lights.
Mothers don't like it when someone takes their eggs. A giant carnosaur (tyrannosaurus) attacks a regiment of Fezian pike.
After Beersteiner musket men fire on the aztec warriors they are charged by them but repel them.
A giant carnosaur suddenly appears and eats the sole survivor of the Aztec knights.
The Fezian matchlock men finally kill the giant carnosaur.

PROGRESS OF THE GAME

It was a number of moves before any exchanges occurred between the two expeditions. The main occupation was finding dinosaur eggs. The combats that first plagued the Fezians were with dinosaurs and natives. The Aztec bowmen and slingers appeared from the end of the field where the expedition was busy searching for eggs. Finally, the natives could stand it no more and attacked the interlopers.

Beersteiners on the central bridge took potshots at Fezians and caused some minor damage. Beersteiner cannons opened up once, without hitting the distant enemy.

Beersteiner archers located a giant carnosaur egg and got it to a wagon (which then broke down but was repaired. Meanwhile some Beersteiner matchlock men discovered two ankylosaurus eggs before a column of Fezian lights could get them.

Upon seeing the arrival of Aztec Eagle and jaguar knights that then headed to the nearby temple Beersteiner matchlock men opened fire. The outraged natives charged them but the steel weapons of the Beersteiners prevailed and the sole Aztec survivor fled, only to be eaten by a newly arriving gnat carnosaur.

The two cannons then fired at this large target and felled it!

Then occurred a mistake by the Beersteiners; the Fezian light column had decided to retreat but the heavy infantry (a unit of ten with a hero and cleric) charged it, causing it to retreat. Although it was badly mauled the retreat brought it in range of Bogavanian pikemen who promptly charged into the Beersteiners. All were killed except for the hero who was captured.

The end of the battle at move thirteen resulted in on egg in possession of the Fezian/ Bogavanian force and three in possession of the Beersteiners. Although Fezian losses were higher only Beerstein lost a complete unit of men.

AFTERMATH

It is not clear if the two forces will engage each other in a naval battle or if they will all safely return to their countries. In the event of the latter, it is expected that the eggs will be hatched by zoological experts and raised and trained as mounts for future battles. It will take some unknown time for that process.
