Fezian Cavalry Run Down Fleeing Aztecs in Hex 205
A large force of Fezian cavalry under the command of General Hissan intercepted two units of Aztecs fleeing from the Battle of the Palm Tree. Also with the Aztec force were two laden supply wagons.
The Aztecs found themselves so close to the arriving Fezian cavalry that their chances of escape were slim.
The Fezian regular cavalry charged the Aztec infantry catching them from the rear. The small force of Aztec archers decided to sell their lives dearly and turned to pepper another unit of regular Fezian cavalry with arrows. The regular cavalry were not armored and bodies began to drop from saddles. The Fezian cavalry was astonished b the boldness of the Aztecs and hesitated to charge.
Meanwhile two units of Fezian mounted archers moved to the flank of the Aztecs and shot their arrows. The shooting was ineffectual, and the Aztecs continued to shoot at their initial target, emptying more saddles. Then the horse archers charged the Aztecs. Finally, only a handful of the Aztecs remained.
However, the Aztec warriors had bought time for the two supply wagons to escape. The few Aztec prisoners were executed.

MECHANICS
WE rolled a dice to determine the position of the Aztec column, which had a bad result for the Aztecs! We also rolled for arm initiative each move which gave the Aztecs a slim chance of escaping.
This was a lopsided game but was in keeping with realities of war where battles can be just massacres.
As I mentioned in another post, this is a fantasy campaign so I recruited all kinds of Indians (except those with rifles and muskets). The Aztecs also have started to use horses and armor, hence the wagons and they have some mounted scouts.
