Battle Of the Forest Patch 2 Fezian Cavalry Attack Map Move 7 14/11/2024

The Aztecs have been concentrating many of their forces and although they have suffered many casualties, they are formidable. The Aztec army was recovering from the last battle and did not move from the site of the previous battle but a small, impetuous force of Fezian cavalry has arrived on the Aztecs' Eastern flank.
Perhaps the Fezians want to risk their cavalry to pin the Aztecs in place as a larger Fezian force and also an allied Bogavanian one also is maneuvering to attack when they have rested. (Aztec mounted scouts had previously discovered the Bogavanian forced march but were cut down by them).

SETTING

Again, it is largely open country, except for a few rocky outcrops and a small forest patch. The Aztecs have lost the advantage of having wizards as both are knocked unconscious from the previous battle. The Fezians also do not have wizards with this particular force.

The Fezians have the advantage of mounted warriors faster and mostly stronger than their opponents. Those in plate armor may be suffering from the tropical heat and so may become exhausted after their first melee.

The Aztecs outnumber the Fezians four to one and also have two large dinosaurs. I am glad I am the Aztecs!

The Aztec line

This Western end of the field was empty most of the game.
Here's a groundhog view of jaguar knights
The Fezian cavalry attempt to outrun to stegadons - unsuccessfully.

The Aztec unit in the foreground was greatly reduced last battle.

Those Fezian cavalry that survived made an exit towards the West.

Jaguar Knights celebrate victory. (The two front-right were my recent conversions featured in an earlier post).

The Fezian hero, deserted by the Fezian cavalry makes a futile charge into the archers. He is knocked unconscious and taken prisoner.
The tough scaly skin and imposing size of the stegadons was too much for the Fezian cavalry.

Retreat forward and across!

WHY DO YOU COME TO THE LAND OF THE AZTECS?

The Fezians, after entering the field from the East decided to ride across to the West, possibly to join a small Bogavanian force. The horse archers exchanged some bow fire with the Aztecs and the cavalry in melee with the stegadons managed to kill one of the archers in a howdah. The Fezians had seven casualties but after treatment of wounds they had lost only three men. The Fezians lost a unit of regular cavalry. Another exited off the way they had come after losing half their unit. The mounted archers lost a few men, and the plate mounted cavalry was unscathed.

ARMY RETREAT/WITHDRAWAL RULES

A smaller force when first encountering a bigger one can opt to withdraw if the dice gods comply. There is greater chance for cavalry to be able to do that but Mat did not take that option maybe because otherwise there would have been no game today!

The later possibility of withdrawal are the commander can make a dice roll based on his 'Boldness'. The lower his Boldness quotient the more likely he is to exit the field and this can be done at any board edge which allows it. However, the units must physically be able to get off without the enemy running them down. We decided that from Move Six no dice roll is required and the same applies - physically withdrawing and outrunning the enemy.

Compulsory retreat/withdrawal: If one army is below 50% before the other army a dice roll is taken based on the general's leadership. If failed the army must exit the field. If this is impossible then it must surrender. It can mean that only part of the army manages to flee. this is determined by proximity of enemy forces, especially cavalry.
