Bloodbath Battle Of The Bridal Hunting Party
The very same Necrolian force which chased the Beersteiner messenger from the capital was on its way to aid in the siege of Jameswick. However, the messenger had alerted the large Beersteiner force in Hex 29. This army turned South to meet the Undead.

Giant versus Varghust
Beersteiner militia and priest. Belladonna lays dead.
Belladonna checks out Nolob the giant.
The remaining skeleton archer charges the hero, Sourkrout. The archbishop urges the infantry to hold their ground.
Belladonna with her diminished skeleton spear unit and zombies attack Sourkrout, the hero.
After the Beersteiner Wizard turned into a manticore he charged Belladonna, but she killed him.
Nolob and Sourkrout attacked the Varguist. Nolob bellyflopped the Varguist but Sourkrout escaped from being flattend! (The template signifies the affected area).
Most of the table was not used and battle was confined to one end (in the distance).
Nolob 'ead-butted the Varghust to death!
A charge of spear Skelton warriors was decimated by infantry fire and the bayonet line held against their assault.
The grenadiers on the far left Beersteiner flank took many casualties from magic missiles and were wiped out in the skeleton spear attack, supported by Belladonna.
The giant was felled by skeleton archery. The crusaders were decimated by vampire aging spell and magic missiles.
The bellyflop
The militia, reduced by magic attacks and skeleton archery
The zombies emerged from a puff of magic smoke but were killed by the redcoats.
87 Beersteiners plus 3 unconscious
THE SETUP
The Undead were moving Westwards along the road but had spied a Beersteiner messenger who they chased. The messenger had turned North and the whole Necrolian army had turned to chase him. He escaped and the bulk of the Beersteiners to the North (in Hex 29) moved South to intercept this threat to their rear.
The closeness of the two armies meant that Beerstein did not have the full opportunity to use its superior firepower
COURSE OF BATTLE
The Beersteiners left their supply wagons in H29 and their two cannons arrived in turn four, but their line of sight was obscured. They would cause damage later in the battle but one cannon misfired and blue up.
The giant and crusader cavalry anchored the left flank. The militia on the right flank moved through the forest to angle towards the Undead. The grenadiers and infantry made a firing line in the center.
The varguist charged but fell short. The giant and hero charged it but were ineffectual to start with. However, the giant bellyflopped and head-butted the varguist to death.
Spells from the vampires caused devastation with aging spells and magic missiles.
The Grave Guard which charged the middle grenadiers were difficult to beat and they steadily recued the grenadiers, and then the infantry that also charged them.
Belladonna charged alongside her skeleton warriors, destroying a grenadier unit.
As the melees had decimated the Beersteiners line of site was also available for remaining soldiers and artillery to fire into the pausing enemy.
What had looked like an Undead victory turned as none of them were standing except for the other vampire, Esmeraya, who made a retreat towards the coach and off the field.
CONSEQUENCES
The Bridal party had been headed for the Beersteiner capital, Jameswick, to aid the siege there. This had been foiled. However, the survival of a vampire is a menace to the Beersteiner supply lines.
NEXT BATTLES
Our next battle will be in over a week and it will be a battle in Aztecia betwen a dinosaur and Aztec force against Fezian cavalry and infantry. That will be the last battle of map move 7.
Looks like a nice game!
ReplyDeleteHow do you resolve battle with the giant, and what kind of stats does he have against for example infantry and in melee?
We used the Warhammer 8th Edition stats. He has variable types of attacks, including 'Bellyflop' and 'Headbutt'. So, we do the roll to hit based on weapon skill, is WS not being great, and then roll to wound, which is generally 2+ with no armor saves on humans and similar. usually he has multiple attacks. In our rules whoever initiates a melee (except for zombies) gets to go first. Then in subsequent rounds of the melee it is based on superior initiative. For example, giants and dinosaurs are a bit awkward and usually go last. Elves and, especially vampires, are super fast, and usually go first. Most things attacked by Undead and monstrous creatures have to do tests to see how they are affected. Fear test for attacks from Undead and terror tests when attacked by monsters/giants. Also, losers of a melee in our rules, are pushed back 20cm. Exceptions are cavalry are not pushed back. Nor are large creatures, like giants.
