ElastoWit Ape Cannon
I finally put together the wooden laser-cut cannon and what a great and unusual addition it is to my armies!
I always loved the scene of the gorillas marching into the Forbidden Zone and was intrigued by the cannons. There was also an earlier scene with the gorillas training with them. They appear to be muzzle loaders.
The model has three rings that fir over the barrel. One of these can be so placed at the end of the barrel to make it appear to have an opening. I like how the guns appear to have a medieval look. The gun shield has a knack of looking both medieval (like a mobile archers' screen, and a 20th century cannon shield).
I am considering dark varnishing or staining with a wash, the wood and painting the barrel a brassy color.
My Ape army will double for earlier 'historical' periods to tie in with my fantasy campaign and also for 2oth century and post-apocalyptic periods depicted in the ape films.
I also have the limber to construct. I bought two of these kits so I can have a battery of two, I might make a third from other cannons, I already had, just by adding shields and solid wheels.
These cannons might also see service in my Beersteiner and Patran armies. Coe to think of it, the Patrans captured Fezian artillery so they might well construct their own versions. these cannons would look great with Timpo Romans!
That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteYes, you should carve some texture into the wood and stain/paint it. I always loved the crude weapons in the Planet of the Apes films, too. Please post pics if you make the modifications. --Gary in Texas
