Ken Toys Dan Dare Figures & Reamsa Aztec Conversions
I always loved unusual space figures. At some point I acquired these two Ken Toys space figures. There are others in the series that I don't have.
Except for the raygun, the figure in the peak cap could easily be a 20th century military officer.
I decided to make a resin copy of this figure as I am unlikely to obtain any others. I might eventually also swap or sell the original.
On another note, another battle between Fezians and Aztecs nears so I thought I might change a couple of figures. These two are generic Reamsa Aztecs but I wanted more specifically Jaguar Knights.
These two I had already painted and added loin cloths to. I found I could snip off the tops of the headdresses to leave space to my green stuff additions. Unlike the Reamsa Jaguar Knights I aimed for headdresses that enclosed the head (like astronauts' helmets). I'll paint these additions to match the suits and paint stylized jaguar spots on the outfits.
I left the bases mostly sand colored so they would not look out of place on the steps of temples or flat-topped pyramids. It is funny how once I thought my Aztecs would see only occasional wargame use but they have become a staple of my fantasy wargaming world.
Here is another view of the Dan Dare figures.
Here is a picture I found somewhere on the Internet which shows the set. Whoever posted the pic, I hope he does not mind, thanks!
Below is the complete set of characters from an auction site. There were three rarer non character figures.
Dan Dare did not play a big part in my childhood comic reading but like the 1950s vibe.
What size are those Ken Toys Space figures?
ReplyDeleteThey looks good and so does your re-casting! You could build a whole unit of those ray-gun tropers. With the original paint-job it kind of reminded me of Drax' space troopers from 'Moonraker'.
They are 1/32 with the yellow figure a little under 54mm. They are character figures hence the differences in size.
