Cheapo Plastic Cowboys & Indians

'Cheapness' for toy soldiers is relative but these were already a good price and further discounted by my local toy shop so that I got four boxes for $20 Australian.

People rubbish these sets, but they generally have good sculpting, and I like the detailed faces. I like them as much as Airfix, although that comment might elicit a few gasps from some people.

I already had a few of these and have converted the Indians to ancients and fantasy figures; in fact, I prefer the Indians to the cowboys as they have so many conversion possibilities.

However, today I show a couple of the cowboys I painted.

The Indians

The cowboys
  Two figures I painted.
The figure at right had the gun barrels replaced with wire. I like the pose of reloading his shotgun.

The bare chest on the lefthand figure is also unusual and has a definite Spaghetti Western look. It looks like he has a Henry rifle. I don't recall other cowboy figures that did not have a shirt under their jackets or vests. Mind you it looks like he has also been working on those abs!

  1. Great find James!
I really like these figures as I have a soft spot for 'Old West' gaming. Are they only for conversions or do you plan an 'Old West' game?
I plan do do some more such games through 2025.
    Merry Christmas!

    1. I already have heaps of Western figures and have played my share of Western games in the past. I don't have one planned, but I'll do another Western game eventually. The Indians will be conversions for my fantasy games - I might give them animal heads to make them Beastmen! Some of the cowboys will be painted and others might be used for swaps.
