Cheapo Red Indians Conversions & Paintjobs
I featured these American Indian figures in a recent post but did not take them out of the box.
One thing which I find endearing about the cheapo end of figures, notably made in China, is the oddments. Is the central figure below meant to have big chest muscles or is it meant to be female? We will probably never know. One leg is also misshapen. The weapon looks more like a very large war hammer than a tomahawk. It is a candidate for the strangest toy American Indian figure ever. I could also say it is one of the 'worst'. However, its very failings make it memorable!
Here are the unaltered figures with two I worked on. The warhammer warrior has been given a shield. The one with sword has had loin cloth and feathers removed and he has been painted as a generic ancient European Northern barbarian, Celt etc.
Close ups of the altered figures. You can see I also added a sword scabbard, beard and pouch to the righthand figure. You can see that these blokes do a lot of sit-ups.
It does not matter to me that such figures are given swords and warhammers as I use them in a fantasy scenarios or convert them into something historically different from the intention of the makers. (On the other hand, some Red Indians did acquire and use the odd cavalry saber). It is obvious though, that it is very easy to convert Native American figures.
It'll be interesting to see what you make of that misfit figure. In a fantasy setting I guess the weapon is acceptable.
ReplyDeleteWell, Roger, I wasn't planning to do anything but to keep it as a curiosity. However, if I was to do something with it, I'd cut it in half and discard the lower half as having a deformed leg. I'd give it a new lower half, possibly also a more feminine one.
