The Great Flood & Plans For Next Campaign & a Toy Soldier Swapmeet.
THE FLOOD
My time has been taken up recently by garage flooding. The brick with metal roof, garage is home to a lot of my wargame stuff and table. Anyhow, thanks to a buildup of debris in the spout the water overflowed. A few magazines and other paper items were soaked and thus had to be thrown out. Some containers of figures filled up with water and the shoebox storage looks rather floppy and sad now. So, I have started the long slow process of cleaning up but the water-logged areas are a small portion of the garage.
I am wondering, apart from keeping maintenance up on the spout, if I can use some kind of filler to stop any water getting in from the edge of ceiling. Maybe I should use a spray-foam.
On the plus side it has forced me to clean up the stuff that had fallen on the concrete floor. I also removed a large piece of waterlogged carpet. Fortunately, I had at the time, a skip bin but my lower back protested lifting such heavy waterlogged carpet, and I still feel it. (My daily swimming routine had kept it in check, but I don't think the back damage too bad).
Also, the connecting rumpus room was not affected although it too used to flood until I took counter measures.
I had intended to clean up and nature has just given me a nudge (as has my daughter who says I have too much STUFF).
NEXT CAMPAIGN
In a couple of weeks Mat and I will play an outside Funny Little Wars game. The next campaign will be more distant as a lot of paperwork is needed.
We determined that 10 years had passed since the campaign ended. I rigged it so it would not be too long as I wanted to get more use of my tricorn and shako stuff before moving on to mid 19th century. We will need to see if any of our characters - more dice rolling.
The other question is do we start anew with troops or allow tops ups of surviving units?
Is a giant a unit or an individual character? Right at the end of our campaign our chance events roll led to a giant coming out of the Fezian mountains and offering his services to Fezia. He was too late to fight the Aztecs. Also, can he be transported in a ship?
Which brings me to the next issue. This is going to be an empire building campaign between Beerstein and Fezia/Bogavania. These countries will not be at war but if they try to claim the same territory war might breakout. Also as usual, third countries might raid our borders so we still need frontier garrisons.
The options will be to explore and probably conquer islands but also, possibly, to attack countries with adjoining land. As these countries are often quite large, they may prove formidable. Most of these lands we know, in a general way, who lives there; there are orcs. Mongols of the Silver Horde, Hillmen of Asgardia, ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians of Patra, The Fritz of Fritzerland, Dark Elves, Chaos and Necrolia. (Even though my Beersteiners took two hexes with two villages, from Necrolia those aging hex spells freaked me out).
I am going to assume that forces available to countries will be greater if they are bigger so there is some incentive to investigate the small ones. Ther may be a chance of peaceful conquest or alliance, again the Dice Gods will be involved. Some islands might even be uninhabited or inhabited by giant apes or dinosaurs!
Possible inhabitants of islands are stone aged natives, ancient level, Aztecs, giants and trolls or ogres, Beastmen and mutants, dwarfs or medieval level. I might also create new continents that could be at our nations level of development. They might or might not have magic. So far, the toxic Green Mist has cut off large parts of the planet from access by others. Patra had the mist lifted only a few decades ago.
There are also some known unknown nations on our own continent that could have any of the island type denizens or Wizard of Oz types complete with witches.
SWAPMEET
March 1 and 2, I am organizing a swapmeet and 54mm wargame in bayside suburb of Sandringham, Melbourne. There is a small fee to cover trestle hire and also a small walk-in fee for those not having tables swapmeet. It is a big task as I have to transport my swaps and armies to Sandringham. Anyone interested in attending can contact me here or by email and I'll give further details: spinradsspook@protonmail.com
