Flash Gordon Game

Today Mat and I played a Flash Gordon Game. The forces were loosely based on those from the Flash Gordon series but with addition of my own adaptation and even including bararella. Mat elected to be Ming the Merciless and his minions defending two Las cannons. The building had a forcefield which gave a 4-6 save for any in, on top or in the immediate vicinity.

We each deployed in a facing table quarter except for the exceptions that follow.
Capturing or destroying the Laz canons or maintaining them. There was also the Hand of Mezroff on the Tower of Evil which was also an objective. mat got to have a Samurai robot guarding it. If I could capture the hand the forcefield would be turned off. Killing Ming or Flash were other objectives.

Meanwhile Ming's daughter was in love with Flash so, eventually, she sabotaged one of the cannons before she was manacled by Ming.

The rebel force was a little more numerous than Ming's and included a number of heroes. it also had a force of Hawkmen and Rocketeers arriving on a flank, from reserve. A small force of Prince Baron's Men in Tights were hidden in the forest.

Ming's forces were in two groups, one guarding the cannons and another moving towards my forces on my left.

RULES
The rules I wrote the same day as the game. I borrowed the Warhammer tables stat system.

Below: Ming and his las cannons. The Greek looking warriors are his elite guard. The white helmeted fellows are Cultists.

Rebels making use of cover. Barbarella is in the foreground.
Rebels, including Flash, space babes in ray resistant miniskirts.

Ming's men and robots charge and the rebels try to find the off switch.
Barbarella climbs the tower and faces off with the samurai robot.

                                                          More rebels climb the tower.
Ming is killed and the rebels are stuck in combat with a sentry robot.
Tragically, the princess is accidentally killed by rebel fire.

                                                            One of the local wildlife.
The Hawkmen played a key role on the attack on the cannons but all died in the assault.

A long melee occurred against the big robot before it lost all its 5 wounds.
SUMMARY
Mat lost the roll for setting up so I could see where his forces were. My rebel forces completely dodged the las cannons. I also won the roll for first move. My forces moved out of cover to shoot at mat's forces n my left but killed only a couple of enemies. Then he charged! or the rest of the game most of those forces were tied up trying to destroy robots, especially the big one.
Prince Barin's force had mini-crossbow, longbows and ray-gun. They took potshots from hard cover at Ming's men around the las cannons. men on both sides fell, never to rise. ming was wounded. Alas, his lovestruck daughter perished accidentally from my shooting.
In the end Ming was killed and a las cannon destroyed. I lost some points for killing the princess but still won, although my force was much diminished.

  NEXT
Mat and I will do rematch next week and I'll be twigging some of the rules which I'll post later.

  1. Great battle report, James! A very narrative game and enjoyable read.
Did Flash get some 'hero points' or stats? It would be bad if he was lost during tha game.

  2. The heroes had better weapon skill and ballistic skill plus multiple wounds and better leadership. Flash had leadership 10. next game I am going to also give heroes multiple attacks. (Yes, this is based on the Warhammer concept and result tables). When I get around to it I'll write out the rules I used. I actually am not that impressed by the contemporary 40K rules but just take what I like from this and ancient Warhammer.
