Bob's Napoleonic Game
On Sunday we played a game with 2000 figures, Hat and DSG being prominent brands. The game was based on the rearguard action as the French tried to delay The Russian pursuit of the French in the retreat from Moscow. I played on the French side on our right flank. I found myself facing twice as many Russians as that side had been weighted.
The better trained French were better shots but the Russians were better in close combat. The French inflicted some early destruction but once the Russians got into combat the French were gradually pushed back and overwhelmed. After four hours holding up the Russians my position was untenable and the centre was also looking grim. The French conceded defeat, although perhaps valuable time had been saved for Napoleon to escape.
