Plains Indian to Aztec Warrior
I made this conversion some time ago and featured it in a post. The basis was a cheapo made in China Indian equipped with a broad sword! This made the figure useful for conversion into Vikings Saxons or Aztecs. I cut the tip of the sword of and cut nicks into the edges to simulate obsidian blades in a wooded sword. The padded cotton, loin cloth bow and hair were built up with putty.
I could have painted the clothing an off white but went for a garish green.
Aztecs were always one of my favourite topics and especially their encounter with the Spaniards. The Aztecs had such a warped mentality, including massive numbers of human sacrifices and priests dancing around in human skin suits that even Inquisition era Spaniards looked good in comparison. The heroism of Spanish leader, Hernando Cortez, who with a couple of hundred Spaniards conquered a nation always caught my imagination. At the same time he managed to get thousands of Indians from other nations to ally with him as they hated the Aztecs so much. The superstitions of the Aztecs with their belief in prophecy and the coming of Quetzalcoatal also helped Cortez as he was thought to be the god returned.
