Campaign Seven: Beerstein Invades Bogavania
Last campaign, as you recall, Bogavania, despite a attempt to invade Beerstein lost a quarter or more of its territory. This also led to loss of revenue and consequently limited supplies to feed its troops.
Two small columns of mounted light and heavy cavalry of partly foreign mercenary origin were sent on a mission to infiltrate South Eastern villages and to live off their crops. These villages were formerly part of Bogavania but had been in Beersteiner possesson for some years. These two forces were also told to intercept any Northward or Western travelling Beersteiner forces from South Castle (known previously as Castle Mathers when owned by Bogavania). This became a suicide mission as Prince Axel led a Beersteiner crusader army Northwards from this very castle.
The small Bogavanian force of two light cavalry and two heavy mounted bowmen (mail or scale jerkins and metal helmets) faced to units of Beersteiner longbowmen, two units of mounted crusaders and three units of crusader infantry as well as a unit of Beersteiner light mounted bowmen.
The Beersteiners acted first as their bowmen moved forward and peppered a unit of light cavalry and the heavy bowmen. On the right the Beersteiner horse bowmen also let losse with their bows.
The Bogavanian force moved right and turned to face the Beersteiners. Some arrows were sent to bounce off the crusaders plate armour. The heavy cavalry who had moved furtherest across the board recognised in the enemy light cavalry some old enemies. These Beersteiner mounted archers were a mongrol lot, including Mongols, Fezians and even a fewexciles from Chaos lands. They shot some of the Boogavanians but then became a constant target until they withdrew. Even then they made some Parthian shots but the Bogavanian Mongols pursued them, all reason lst as they rode past the enemy crusader knights. One Beersteiner mounted archer escaped unscathed, although later anther six recverred from injuries. Then the knights closed in and hacked the Bogavanian horse archers and their horses to bits, bar three prisoners taken, an unusual event to spare such as they.
In the meantime, in the centre, mounted crusader knights had impacted enemy cavalry and wiped them out, with little damage to themselves. Some Bogavanian light cavalry charged another unit of mounted crusaders to little effect before being destroyed.
The light Bogavanian cavalry which had first come under fire were so reduced by the archery that they decided to flee back from where they came.
The field belonged to Beerstein but the outcome was never in doubt given the act of desperation by the small Bogavanian force now virtually destroyed , except for the small fleeing unit.
The secret movement drawers. Three contacts occurred simultaneously The matches represent credits, Each credit feeds twenty infantry or 12 cavalrymen. There is also a card with units present and mission orders.
Today's battle was fought in hex 143. The sites of battles are shown by the dice. The next battle will be undertaken in a few days and is at hex 105. This one will include villages with palisades defended by peasant bowmen and their lord as well as the two forces that meet in the hex. The third battle in hex 122 will be fought last and involves King Long Shanks of Beerstein. In reality all three battles occur on the same day. The next campaign move will be halved for those armies that have just fought. (Infantry normally move two hexes and cavalry three hexes if separate). South Castle is below the most Southern die. The bogavanian capital is in hex 141.
The Beerstein capital can be seen near the top and next to the Emerald Sea. Fezia is to the right or East. The lands of the Hillmen, Chaos and the undead realm of Necrolia are to the North. Orks and Dark Elves live in the West.
