The Battle Of Hell's Pass - 1/32 Chaos Vs Undead

Mat and I finally got around to doing a real fantasy wargame. Our fantasy campaign game  (which we will revisit later in the year) was manly confined to human combatants. This time I threw together a Chaos army, with allied orcs and an undead army. We omitted magic this time but will introduce it in a later game.

I didn't attempt a matchup points for an equal game and although the undead army was bigger it was mostly outclassed by more powerful opponents. The real exceptions were the Crypt guard in heavy armor and the vampires. Most of the skeleton regiments had no vampire attached but those that did fared much better. I'll add a couple more into the mix next time.

As for rules we did not use our usual home rules for medieval because there were so many different creatures. We fell back on Warhammer (not really fazed as to which edition we used, and ignored half the complicating details. Mostly we wanted to make use of the tables that allowfor different qualities of speed, strength and toughness.

Undead skeletons rank up next to a giant skeleton frog.

Most of these skeleton warriors were based by my mate Bob. Some of them I have painted.

Chaos cavalry sweep around against my left flank.

Undead skeleton giant and Crypt Guard

Chaos mutants (my own designation) smash into the zombies.
Chaos cavalry sweep all before them.
Chaos minotaurs and beast men cut down the skeleton giant.
Chaos warriors sweep across my Undead left flank.

Meanwhile my Vampire lord, attached to a depleted mounted skeleton warrior unit, sweeps the enemy from the field.
Chaos Devil men (pretty close to Blood Letters) threaten my right flank. Orcs follow behind but are attacked by a skeleton unit (which is eventually destroyed).
My Vampire lord escapes the slavering devil men and adds his combat prowess to the Crypt Guard in the center instead.

Spear wielding skeleton warriors push back a Chaos force until one minotaur remains but other Chaos forces move up and crunch some bones.
A narrow escape for the vampire lord commander.
                                                              Skeletons fight mutants.

The Chaos lord with his pig men mounted on Cold Ones joins a combat.
Skeleton warriors overwhelmed by ogres, minotaur and centaurs.

The devil men grind these undead bones to dust.
One of the devil men smiles for the camera. They are very happy with themselves as they vanquish the undead.
Even the vampire count is overwhelmed.
Elsewhere, a second vampire count 'dies'.

However, this vampire count has killed the Chaos lord and his pig man guard, as well as driving an orc unit back.

                                                       Chaos warriors in heavy armor.

In the end the only undead left was the crypt guard which had destroyed the beast men and ogres. The Vampire lord sought refuge with them and prepared for the Chaos minions to attack them.

Chaos had one a major victory but one tempered by the loss of the Chaos Lord.
