Carthaginian Victory!

Today Mat and I played our wargame with Mat being the Romans. The Romans, being outnumbered by about three units we gave them higher morale and better armor. The armor difference started to make a difference in one section of the table. However, the carthaginian elephants smashed a path through and destroyed the Roman catapult and the Romans were about to be over-run just as the Roman commander was killed. ironically, the Carthaginian commander was also imperiled at the end of the battle as he and his bodyguard were in melee with a Roman unit.

                                                                       The Romans

Carthaginian cavalry advance along the river. (The river was shallow and halved movement).
                                                        Carthaginian infantry advance
                                                            Carthaginian command group
Carthaginian infantry advance supported by elephants

The Roman cavalry charge the elephants! The cavalry don't last long.

Carthaginian and Roman cavalry clash in the centre.
The Super heavy Romans whittle down the Greek spearmen.

                                                     The catapult crew are squashed!

The Roman Super heavies come up against a fresh unit and begin to whittle it down too but it is far from its objective.

In a couple of weeks we are going to have a replay and swap sides with the same scenario - Romans trying to hold a corner of the field and Carthaginians trying to drive them off. i'll be Romans this time.
