German Civilians And Treeman

Yes, I know it is a strange juxtaposition but I happened to buy them on the same day in Melbourne. The treeman I bought from Mind Games, Swanston Street. The Germans I bought from Hearns Hobbies Flinders Street.

I don't usually by 1/35th stuff and just hope that it will be biggish 1/35 to fit with my 1/32. One thing with this set is it includes a boy and two women so they would tend to be smaller anyway.

I had, on another occasion, bought French civilians, probably from the same maker and they were quite nice. Obviously most Western nations' civilians are fairly interchangeable.

What does make the set interesting is the variety; you get an old lady with cane, a smart looking man in a suit and a young woman but also two males in uniform.

The one who looks like a soldier I think is intended as a policeman and he comes with alternative head gear. I have plenty of Germans in helmets so I'll go for the unusual cap.

The boy is Hitler Youth (the Nazi equivalent of Boy Scouts). Some people have issue with depicting any specifically Nazi uniforms. (Some even have issues with toy German soldiers or Nazi emblems on planes and vehicles - looking at you, dumbarse Ebay). Although I don't go out of my way to stock up on SA or SS they are interesting from a historical and uniform point of view. Especially, this is the first Hitler Youth I have come across. I am tempted to give him a rifle or submachinegun over his shoulder for the last ditch defence of Berlin.

The treeman is very nicely sculpted. A 28mm figure would come under his knee and a 54mm closer to his waist. In any case it is something I did not previously have. If I wanted more I might make them from tree roots and putty! When I paint it I'll post more pics.
