Spanish American War Coloured Infantry From A Cowboy.
American African American troops, cavalry and infantry had separate regiments from since the American Civil War and continued to do so into the 20th century. Officers were usually white.
This figure was a simple conversion from a copy of an Airfix cowboy. Haversack and blanket roll are added from putty. Holster is removed. The boots are trimmed at the top and painted as leggings. Bullet loops on the waist belt can be added by cutting into the existing belt or just by painting them on.
Another source of Coloured troops are from BMC although, despite bayonets they look more like dismounted cavalry (which I think was the intention) due to their holsters and also a little like bandits due to shoulder bandoleers.
Copies of Airfix cowboys and even the originals are a good source for American troops of this period with easy conversion work.
