More Congo Mercenaries And Possible New Recruits
The photos of mercenaries below suggest a casualness of uniform (which one would expect in the heat and the diverse nature of the recruits).
Mueller was notorious for his Iron Cross. He had served in the German army in WW2. Accounts suggest he was not quite the humourless sadistic Nazi as portrayed in Dark Side of the Sun (Wilbur Smith novel).
My new mercenary conversions reflect the diversity of mercenary dress. Left to right: modern infantryman cheapo army man set, copy of Timmee modern American infantryman with rear sight trimmed off, Cheapo jungle set white hunter, copy of Airfix Australian (slightly smaller) and original, both with puggarees trimmed off hats. The radio operator is from the modern cheapo Chinese made modern infantry set.
Red shoulder straps, I assume denote officer. The colours varied according to unit.here they are with the earlier figures. I decided to paint out the red shoulder straps unless I wanted an officer.
Lone Star Aussies are candidates for mercs although shorts don't seem to have been characteristic of mercs in the Congo.
Timpo Aussies are closer to the mark.
Old HK jeep which went with swoppet figures.
