Only Yoking - More Experiments With Cattle Drawn Wagons

Having acquired some nice looking toy cattle for my wagons I am pursuing the idea further. I Googled the two pics of oxen with yokes.

So what to make the double yokes from? I settled for icy pole sticks with putty and then florist wire bent around the under part of the necks. Strictly speaking they should pass through the wood at the top but icy pole sticks are too thin. Balsa might be another option. I'm keeping it fairly basic at present.

Below are two types of oxen, one with icy pole yoke. Rather than based with the wagons these are separate and intended to be used with cannons or wagons as needed.

The icy pole sticks were cut in half length ways as well as to length but I made this one too short so lengthened it with putty. Shallow crescent shapes are cut where the cattle's necks are. The yoke and florist wire were glued on with Super Glue, which is great for sticking all sorts of things, especially fingers.

Britains plastic draft horses to the left, oxen to the right but this time with plastic sprue yoke. The drivers are repro Charbens civilians with turbans added or crim cut off. They are intended as Fezians. Their seats are cut from icy pole sticks (of which I have a big collection which has stayed in a drawer for several years until now.

These wagons were largely left unpainted and came from cheap  Western sets. The big barrels are painted and could be water or alcohol filled or even filled with food stuffs.

I have some parts and drivers to paint.

A future scheme will be camel drawn wagons!
