American Civil War Coloured And Native Americans etc

I converted and painted these several decades ago!

BELOW: Jesse James made from a random mechanic whose oilcan became a cup. Is Jesse going to drink from it or get some target practice? He wear the typical guerilla shirt warn by Quantrill's Raiders. Hat and pistols were added. Quantrill's men were heavily armed, ntably with multiple revolvers and shotguns.

I could have taken a better pic but this is a New York Scottish Federal. After ridicule from other troops most of them wore the normal light blue trousers and a few wore trews but a kilt here and there sets them off. The figure is converted from a British highlander.

Britains Detail Confederate with Gatling. An officer with telescope came with it with all attached to a metal base. Historically, the Cnfederates actually had a different machine gun.
After reading Michael Blakes books on ACW uniforms I was inspired to make some Indian conversions. The Confederate Indians dresses in a mix of white man's clothing and a few native touches. They were nostly armed with firearms rather than bows. One style of trousers looked a lot like flares! The figure in the backgrund is converted from a Timpo Swoppet and the foreground figure is made from a Britains detail cowboy,
The Timpo figure has a sorn off shotgun, The next figure is a Detail Apache,

I was in my early twenties, in the 1980s, when I did these. The figures are made from Airfix Multipose WW2 germans, The prone figure was the machine gunner. Although they were the civilised tribes this did not prevent scalp hunting on  occasion. The two figures, federal and Confederate Indian, are on an egg timer base. I got a prize t a competition for this one.

Coloured Federal cannoneer made from Britains road worker
African American trench digger (used on both sides).

Coloured regiment: There were many coloured regiments, mostly on the Federal side, and they varied considerably in quality but Federal Coloured soldiers had a strong incentive not to be captured. Officers were mostly white and, initially, so were NCOs.

These troops are so good that their footwork that their charging is perfectly synchronised.
