A NOTE ON FIGURES
As you can see, not all troops have to be custom conversions. The Detail Turks fit the role well as Winkies. On the other hand the purple cavalry unit was long ago converted from Hong Kong copies of Britains Detail. The main additions were bows and the flag. However, that was with no intention of using them as Winkies. The artillery crew in tricornes and red coats, an example of a custom unit, were some suitable smaller civilian or police figures with some putty additions and Accurate AWI heads. They got the kind of proportions I wanted.

The Winkies I have conceived as human sized. They are literally yellow skinned in the novels (although green skinned in the movie) but, as the figures I used are already used for other things, such as my medieval Turkish-Fezian army they did not get that skin treatment. Gillikins are the smallest and have green skin. Munchkins are also midgets but a little bigger than Gillikins and with Caucasian skin but sometimes green hair (some are green skinned in the novels and movie). In the end, most of my Munchkins are just smaller scaled Napoleonic troops. They get a minus one in close combat but if they are grenadiers this is balanced by a plus one. Gillikins generally get a minus two in combat because they are even shorter. Militia also get a minus one in combat. The Quadlings are also just human sized Napoleonics although, they are meant to be somewhat rotund in stature. Also, it was easier for the cavalry to just be mounted on horses, although goat, boar and big bird mounted troops would have looked good.

Of course, the Oz novels are just inspiration. There is no attempt to replicate the stories and the armies are just telescoped from the few references to Munchkin and Winkie soldiers. The Winkies did not have complete plate armor as I ended up giving my ones.

A SAD END FOR THE GOOD FORCES OF OZZZ

'The Cowardly Lion lays dead (or is he just knocked unconscious, in The Dark Forest. The scarecrows have had their stuffing knocked out of them and the Tin men lay in pieces, their Tinkerman also apparently dead. The Wizard has fled and Glinda, the Good Witch is hiding. The Bad Witches, Arella and Evora are cackling. Maybe Dorothy needs to return.
