The Kelly Gang - ElastoWit

The helmetless figure I assume is Ned. He comes with a helmet which can be added but I misplaced it!

Although the Kelly armor has survived to the present the description of clothes is not exact. According to an eyewitness Ned's shirt was a check shirt (not visible). He had a 'dark coat' and 'light colored' trousers. Artistic representations often show the reverse of light-colored coat and dark colored trousers.

Ned Kelly is probably the best-known person from Australian history. His armor was one reason, but he was also bold and an effective bushranger who, with his gang, held whole towns captive.

For those who see him as a hero he represented the struggles of the 'little man' (Irish Australian, in particular) against the elite or the small landowners against the rich 'squatters' who monopolized the land. He and his family were persecuted by the police, some of whom were of questionable character, but where there was smoke there was fire, and the young Ned was closely associated with stock stealing. He also killed police trying to capture or kill him, although he argued it was in self defence.

Whatever the conclusion he could have fled the fatal siege as he was in the bush, not the inn of Glenrowan but elected to remain to stand by his mates when he charged out of the trees, guns blazing. He also faced his trial and death bravely and defiantly. However, latest research suggests he probably did not say 'Such is life' as he faced the gallows.

On another note, the Kelly gang, did not kill one target in that final battle. on the other hand all  of them died with Ned being badly wounded only to be hung at a later date. The inaccuracy was due to three factors. 1/They had got little sleep the night before or/and were hung over, 2/ the overwhelming suppressive fire of the police attacking the inn and, ironically, the armor limited effectiveness of their shooting.
