The Passing Of Tony Adams, Creator Of The Screw Army & An Imagi-nation

Archduke Piccolo and Man of Tin posted tributes to Tony Adams and his blog. Tony was 71 when he died. The Tony Adams blog had been up since 2018.

Inspired by a magazine article, Tony Adams set forth to create huge armies of screws! The Union army, set in the later years of the 19th century was his specialty.

Apparently, the thousands of screws were given a special treatment to remove the zinc. They were given some basic painting to denote their country, but Adam also made tiny wagons, cavalry and so on.

Although more realistic and 54mm toy soldiers are what I like to game with I admire Admam for his ingenuity and his different take on creating armies.

What fascinated me most was Adam's fictional world of Tian and the positioning of countries. 'The Union' for example, shared a border with China, which was a major enemy. One of the campaigns involved consultation, with India, to initiate an invasion of China through Northern India! I have included here Tony's world map. It is an inspiration to others who would create their own worlds.

Tony's legacy is one to celebrate. His blog doesn't just disappear and here is a link. The Woodscrew Miniature Army
