November 2024 Conversions& ElastoWit Ape Gun Limber

I like to convert figures to create something unique and also to fill missing ranks in my regiments.

I am adding to my miter cap grenadiers. My few remaining unpainted Charbens repro grenadiers are mostly in sword wielding poses. I took one of the heads and transferred it to a BMC figure. The BMC Revolutionary War figures have two sizes of figures and I pick the larger ones for grenadiers. However, this stabbing pose is actually bigger even than the Cherbens figures so the head is a tad small. The left-over head I transferred to the Charbens figure, and he will be a hero figure in my games.

The resin Mexican is a copy I made of a Lone Star figure, one of the less common Western figures. The base a foot and part of the hat brim did not come out, but those things are easily fixed.

I was also two short for my AWOI redcoat cavalry. So far, I used Napoleonics to fill the spaces in the 12 man unit. I use the pistol firing figure as an officer so I wanted to change an arm. The new arm comes from a pirate figure. The flag bearer has an army from a Timpo repro cowboy with revolver removed. The flag is made from wire and aluminium can.

In this pic you can see the Mexican has been given a Henry rifle from a HK swoppet cowboy. The flag bearer will have a Beersteiner flag, and it has a putty Beerstein at its apex.

The other resin figure is copied from an old Britains hollow-cast station-keeper. He has been given a spare resin arm from some Armchair General Japanese figures. I envisage using him as a sea captain.

I am still adding the odd new Jaguar Knight to my Aztec army. I spied, in my boxes, a repro Cherilea Saxon/Viking. I had already, in the dim past, used his shield for another conversion, which one I forget. So, wire and Green Stuff made another. I did not worry about the hand definition as it will be covered by a shield. I cut away the tunic skirt and added a tail. Humbrol putty was used to thicken up the bare legs. A tail (optional) was also added. The club was the easiest option to make, and I used brass wire and putty. My intention is to make a mold of this to make three or four others.
I also added a loin cloth which is meant to poke through an opening in the costume.
I finally bit the bullet and made the ElastoWit gun limber. I must admit that despite my conversion tinkering I put off assembling kits and often don't finish them. Anyhow, this one was easier than i thought it would be and I have another one to make. As with the cannon I used a brown wash to allow some of the wooden grain to show through.
The cool thing is that the gun easily sits on the limber hook and the horse hitch also easily disengages from the limber. I have yet to add the horses.

Here are the figures undercoated but I still need to prepare two horses for the riders. My aim is to paint them for tomorrow's game to fill in the unit which will be attempting to relieve the Undead siege of my capital!
