Fezia Versus Grand Fenwick Round 2

Today Mat and I played a rematch of the Fezian invasion of the Duchy of Grand Fenwick. This time we switched armies. Last time I was Fezia and lost by one point. This time I played Grand Fenwick.

My troop dispositions were not very different from Mat's when he played as Grand Fenwick. However, I initially kept my single unit of cavalry at the rear and in the center to see where they might be needed.

As for last time, the Fezians were more numerous but Grand Fenwick had two elite infantry and had the advantage of starting positioned in one side of the village. One difference from last game is I placed the machine gun in a building instead of between buildings.

BELOW:
A Grand Fenwick sailor stands by the heavy cannon by a building near the center of the battlefield.

                                                            A civilian seeks safety.
The Duchess directs her general to hold the town. Some women and children, in the background, shelter with their babes.

A lady urges Dixie, the cat, to seek shelter.
Meanwhile a lady visiting her sister's grave, is confronted by a phantom dog.
Babies cry when they hear gunfire. Their others comfort them.
A lady from the Lionian delegation also looks for cover and calls her dog.

Fezian artillery - medium guns in the center on a foam hill

Fezian Bashi Bazouks advance in open order against my right flank. My Guardsmen were threatened by them and also a cavalry assault on my far right.
Close order Fezian infantry exchange fire with Grand Fenwick line infantry on my right.
I actually forgot about my long bowmen. They were in reserve and could arrive on the enemy's flank. Mat actually reminded me on move five. Anything other than a one on a D6 meant they would now come on, which they did. As in the last game they came on the Fezian's right flank. By this time, they had only cleaning up work to do.

Some Grand Fenwickers, in the Pepe building, begin to place the machine gun on some ammunition crates to reach out of the window
Fezian infantry advance under partial cover opposite my left.
Grand Fenwick line infantry changes to open order to reduce their casualties. Fezian infantry advance opposite them.
                                                      Grand Fenwick Guard infantry
Two Fezian cavalry units advance against my extreme right. My single cavalry unit (not shown) moved up to stop them and charged the first enemy unit.

OUTCOME:

The first enemy cavalry was destroyed by my cavalry but the second Fezian unit almost wiped them out before a single cavalryman retreated. Then my Guards prepared to meet a cavalry attack and succeeded in destroying the second enemy cavalry unit.

My light and heavy gun, along with machinegun and infantry fire greatly reduced Fezian numbers as the enemy continued its advance. My elite Royal Marines repelled the enemy infantry advancing on my left. The late arriving archers continued the slaughter of remaining, withdrawing Fezian infantry.

At the end of the battle the Fezians still had their artillery and much diminished infantry. Five units were destroyed or driven from the field. My Grand Fenwick had lost a machine gun crew. Its cavalry was almost destroyed and the ranks of the infantry were somewhat thinned. I possessed three table quarters as opposed to one possessed by Fezia. Scores: Fezia 4, Grand Fenwick 14. (Points were three for each undisputed table quarter and one point for each enemy unit destroyed.

A NOTE ON FIGURES AND UNIFORMS

Yes, keen eyes will have noticed the remarkable resemblance of Grand Fenwick units to Redian units and uniforms. Grand Fenwick has friendly relations with Redia and has had so since the Duchy was founded by a wandering English knight in medieval times.

NEXT BATTLE

The next battle is planned for Thursday next week and will, hopefully, be on the front lawn.
