ElastoWit Prince Baron

I neglected painting this ElastoWit Space Opera figure but I finished him today. I like the way retro SF blended old historical tropes with futuristic ones. Flash Gordon obviously did this on several fronts. Prince Baron has a crossbow but he could also have a ray-gun.

Below Prince Baron and one of his men attack Ming's men and their disintegrator cannon.

The Prince's sidekick is a Chinese or HK copy of a Timpo WW2 German with submachinegun. The gun looked like an SF weapon to me! The helmet was carved down and replaced with a putty cap.

The two Ming's men are cheapo ancient Greeks with Warhammer 40K weapons. (They would also be good for Trigan Emoire). The cannon is from a cheap Chinese set of modern infantry. Its weirdness is great for SF!

  1. I really like your Flash Gordon miniatures.
I've seen model railway layouts built as black/white, and to me Flash Gordon was mostly black/white from the old movies. It could be an interesting paint scheme.

  2. Thanks Roger. I like the retro look which uses elements of much older history combined with the Space Age. Edgar Rice Burroughs did the same with his worlds, such as Barsoom. My introduction to Flash Gordon came via 1960s color comics. I never saw the old black and white serials until much later in life. James
