Mexican Hussars 1843-46, one of Santa Anna's Favorite Regiments
Most of the figures below, for the Hussares de la Guardia de los Supremos Poderes, are Timpo Action pack Napoleonic cavalry but not all are on Timpo horses. The third figure from left is a Dulcop figure on an Airfix (or copy) horse. Others are on BMC horses and one other brand.
I was guessing as to the gold braid on the officer, but it would be likely.
Below: At left is my recently painted figure and at right one I did quite a few years ago, hence a difference in the shade of the blue. I see I still have to paint on the busby badge. I see he already lost some paint from his saber. &%$#@!
It is a while since I fully researched this unit, and I am uncertain as to the saddle cloth and rolled items colors but probably light blue or red.
The unit needs v one more man and I might make him a bugler.
The reference I laid my hands on today was the Osprey book, Santa Anna's Mexican Army, 1821-48 so it includes uniforms for the Texan Revolution and the later Mexican War. This unit was too early for the Texan revolt but maybe also a tad early for the Mexican War! The book mentions that 'a more standard uniform' was issued in 1846 (for the start of the war with America). However, I am going to still use them on the basis that the change is vague, and they look too good in these uniforms not to use them! In any case, they will be also used in the fictitious wars of Cortesia and covering a wider timespan.
At some point I want to do some mini campaigns for the Texan War of Independence and also, possibly, for the Mexican War. (They are both 'Mexican wars' but the second one is actually called that).
