Assorted Conversions Whimsical & The Napoleon of Notting Hill.
I enjoy making something different from original figures.
Below is a resin copy I made of an ElastoWit figure. I have added a tricorne to the bandaged or scarfed head. He will be a wagon loader or pioneer.
This one is a resin copy of an ElastoWit Space Opera figure, I have given her hair over the skull cap. She will join my unit of female space warriors in mini-skirts.
Now for something really unusual! These are Airfix 8th Army changed into something..,different! I could have kept going with modifications to make them more authentic Renaissance troopers. Instead, I am making figures for the Napoleon of Notting Hill by Chesterton.
Chesterton was writing a story set in 1984 but with technology little changed from the Victorian era. Even more than that, the boroughs of London have reverted to a pseudo-Renaissance or medieval mode of thought and clothing. They even go to war with one another.
The description of military attire and weaponry is rudimentary, and the main mention is of swords and halberds. 'Commonsense' dictates that at least some firearms would be used. If some advance in technology could be supposed they could have both magazine firearms and sub-machineguns as well as anti-tank weapons etc. but I have decided that the extent of advanced weapons will be bolt action single shot rifles and revolvers. The majority of soldiers will have edged weapons and maybe some armor, even full suits of armor for a few. It would not be too much of a stretch to have a few long bows and crossbows. other weapons will be halberds, spears and other edged weapons.
As for figures, the bulk will be Renaissance and medieval ones. I might include a sprinkling of figures in Victorian or Edwardian costume. The real fun is going to be hybrid figures like the ones below. The WW1 and WW2 British helmet actually had medieval Origins (as had the German ones). Most likely I'll paint them as bare steel. Each borough has a particular uniform color scheme.
I am also going to do some figures, including renaissance style with top hats, some that will be cloth and some steel! Others will have the big soft, floppy hats typical of many Renaissance warriors. Some of my recently purchased footballers might end up heavily converted.
Paul Wright of Funny little Wars wrote a wargame skirmish scenario with hidden deployment.
I go through a lot of Super Glue and use it to strengthen Green Stuff additions adhesion. Recently I bought three packets of Super Glues only to find them very deficient with little glue in the tubes and being of a gel rather than a liquid nature. The glues, 15 or 20 tubes, were meant to last a few months, but they will be finished in a couple of weeks. I already removed them all from their packaging or I would have taken them back to the party store I bought them from. I won't be buying glue from there again!
