Grenadiers, Grenadiers, Grenadiers, Posted For Paul!
Paul Wright mentioned how much he likes miter cap grenadiers so here they are, with some fur caps also!
The mounted officer is a Tipple Topple figure. In the foreground are fur hat grenadiers from Marx, A Call to Arms and BMC. They are with Beersteiner flag. British grenadiers in miter caps are at the rear
Here are the Hessians, including Charbens repro and converted BMC.
The BMC grenadiers have strangely large heads, but I have taken a liking to them.
All these units would probably not be together, in square, like this, given they represent changes in military fashion and, as far as I know, the Swiss grenadiers were not serving with British forces.
Here are the Hessians again, including copies of Marx, at attention and converted AIP figure waving his hat.
Most of my collection is for wargame purposes and these are no exception. The blue coated figures might end up as Bogavanians. Otherwise, as I don't have huge numbers of 18th century troops these could be used in French and Indian Wars or American Revolution with numbers made up with units of Woodland Indians. Of course, I might fudge it and include miter cap and fur cap British in the same battle. Some of them just did not get their new uniforms yet!
There is also a difference in cut between mid-century 18th century uniforms and American Revolution, with the earlier uniforms being fuller with larger cuffs etc. My view is that so long as this is explained to observers the main thing is to have a visually pleasing setup and a good game. I won't lose too much sleep over that.
In any case, most of my games are now in a semi-fictional universe set on another planet so differences in cuff details are the least of all evils. In fact, in my universe, these troops could be fighting anything from vampires and giants to Aztecs!
Some of the units still need top-ups so I'll be adding extra figures and especially flag bearers for changes of scenario.
This is an impressive collection of Grenadiers!
